The programme catch-up service provided by ITV has seen a huge increase in users, with the company announcing that the ITV Player had 215 million views during 2009.

In 2008 the service reported just 85 million users or views.

The figures were announced during the financial report, which was very buoyant considering the huge loses that the broadcaster announced at the same time last year.

The ITV Player now has a base to work from and clearly has the content that viewers want.

The issue facing ITV now is making sure that the right content and service is available to users.

The BBC has proved that catch-up TV works with the iPlayer; the ITV Player could follow its lead.

The only hurdle for the ITV Player could be the advertising built into the ITV Player content.
