EU looking into Iran satellite jamming

Bookmark and Share

by David Allen

Once again it looks as if the Iranian Government is jamming the satellite signal from the BBC and some other international broadcasters.

This follows the civil unrest that appears to be occurring on a regular basis since the last presidential election.

According to a statement by the European Union Foreign Ministers, satellite television jamming and internet censoring is an unacceptable situation.

They are therefore calling on the Iranian government to stop this practice immediately.

It seems that technology provided by Nokia Siemens allows the Iranian government to monitor calls and at the same time block out unwanted websites such as social networking sites.

Trade sanctions appear to be a weapon that the EU is looking to impose, but to what end is anyone’s guess.
