Finally, after a long round of bids, the culture secretary Ben Bradshaw has announced the winners of the regional news ITV replacement scheme.

In Scotland it will be newspaper publishers Johnston Press, Herald and Times Group and DC Thomson, while in Wales the pilot scheme will be run by ITV Northern Ireland licence holder UTV, which will take the pilot in collaboration with newspaper publisher NWN Media.

The final region is the English Tyne Tees and Border region and Trinity Mirror, the Press Association and independent TV production company Ten Alps will run this region.

These are winners in every sense of word, sharing a £47 million pot of cash over the next two years.

In return they must provide a local TV news service as well as radio, mobile and online coverage.
