Pubs worry about Ofcom’s plans for BSkyB

by David Allen

There has been a lot said about the important decision that the media regulator has to make over the wholesale prices that satellite provider BSkyB charges other broadcasters.

The decision is expected to be that BSkyB is charging too much and as result Ofcom will no doubt demand that prices are cut.

It has been estimated that Ofcom will require a price cut of around a third, which will be passed on by providers such as Virgin Media and BT Vision to their subscribers.

However, one group has been left out of the consultation and that is the Pubs and Clubs that are currently paying around £432 per month for the Sky Sports package.

The decision of the pay TV review is bound to be appealed against by BSkyB so prices are not likely to change immediately.
