BT London exchange almost recovered from flood

Darren Allan

BT has said that it has cleaned up and is in the process of getting everything going in the Paddington exchange which was hit by both fire and a flood on Wednesday.

The landlines and broadband of tens of thousands of customers which were affected, particularly in the north and west of London, are now being brought steadily back into operation.

The Telegraph reports that BT say work will progress throughout the day, so if your service has been taken out by the incident, hopefully it will be restored at some point today.

However, no guarantees have been given regarding exactly when people are going to be getting back online.

The BBC says that an electrical fault caused the flood and the fire. Although quite how an electrical fault can cause a flood, in room-fulls of expensive electronic equipment where sprinklers presumably aren’t used, we’re not quite sure.
