by David Allen

It was back on the 2nd December when Freeview first began broadcasting in high definition, initially in two locations, London and the North West of England.

But slowly Freeview has been rolling high definition out around the UK, with the addition of Birmingham, Bradford and Leeds, as well as coverage in parts of Wales and the North West due to work carried out on some transmitters in the region.

According to Freeview, the free-to-view digital TV service will reach its target of fifty per cent coverage by the time the World Cup kicks off in South Africa in June.

The Freeview HD rollout will continue until 2012 when, by the time that the digital switchover has been completed, Freeview HD will be available in 98.5 per cent of UK households.
