SNP take debates issue to the BBC Trust

April 5, 2010

With a General Election expected to be called within the next couple of days, the SNP leader Alex Salmond is making a last ditch appeal to get the decision on the live election debates reversed, allowing him to take part.

Currently the plan is for Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg to appear on the BBC General Election leaders’ debates, but Alex Salmond believes that he has as much right to stand up there as the other leaders.

However, the general feeling is that only those leaders that are fighting for the job of Prime Minister should take part.

It is for this reason that Alex Salmond is calling upon the BBC Trust to reverse its decision about a fourth debate featuring the leaders’ representatives and the leaders of the nationalist parties.
