Tesco cancels VoIP service

Tesco will be phasing out its VoIP service over the next few weeks, until the 27th April when the service will be closed down completely.

The company has not been allowing customers to top up their pre pay accounts for some time.

Those customers that have any outstanding credit, or those that have purchased a handset during the past three month, can expect to receive a refund.

According to a Tesco Spokesperson the service, launched in 2006, has not been a great success, with customers not really taking up the VoIP phone service despite the chance to have free calls between Tesco Internet phones and 2p per minute calls to landlines, including some international calls.

Many customers feel let down by this action, but cannot really be surprised that Tesco has finally decided to pull the plug on Tesco VoIP.

  1. And there is currently no arrangements to port the Tesco numbers to an alternative telephony provider!

    This is a particularly poor performance from Tesco who usually provide good customer service.

  2. I have contacted several other VOIP and telephony suppliers and none of them are able to port the Tesco Internet Phone numbers to their networks. Ofcom have deafened me with their silence on the issue, and Tesco have given me an unreserved apology but do not have a solution for the customers they have let down.
