3 rolls out in-car wi-fi

by Darren Allan

Those clever chaps (and ladies) at 3 have unveiled a new piece of technological kit at The Gadget Show Live, down at the Birmingham NEC.

It’s a car kit which provides wi-fi to the passengers in a vehicle (but not the driver, as he’ll be too busy driving to be watching YouTube videos).

The kit consists of a MiFi modem, which picks up a 3G connection (providing it’s available, of course) and creates your own personal wi-fi hotspot in the car.

It also comes with an in-car charger and a windscreen holder.

Using the system, everyone in the family car will be able to connect online, whether it’s the kids on their Nintendo handheld, or adults browsing the web on a netbook.

The kit costs £60 and comes with 1GB of data.
