The BBC should be celebrating the latest series of Doctor Who, but introducing a new Doctor and new female companion is always going to be a risky business.
However, so far in the UK the series has held its own and the new Doctor, played by Matt Smith, and his companion Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan, have pleased the audience.
The American market is, however, a more difficult place to tackle, although it has to be said that now content is available through iTunes, on demand services and of course BBC America, American TV viewers have easier access to British content.
Previously the US audience record for the BBC stood at 1 million.
This was for ‘Dr Who: End of Time’, but now the new Dr Who has beaten that figure, with the premiere reaching 1.2 million viewers.
