Pay TV fuels euro recovery

A new study produced by the European Audiovisual Observatory has used data available from the top twelve leading TV broadcasters to gauge how the industry coped in 2009.

According to the report, it seems that the broadcasters performed much better than expected; in fact they did better in 2009, the year of financial crisis, than in 2008.

The twelve broadcasters operate 534 TV channels between them and many have used this time of financial crisis to invest and bring out new packages and equipment.

Of the twelve broadcasters it is Sky TV that comes out on top in Europe.

In terms of revenues the company is showing a 19.6 per cent increase on the year before.

RTL, Vivendi and Mediaset followed up as being strong performers.
