Mobile broadband provider may avoid file sharing rules

April 26, 2010

It looks as if users of mobile broadband services and customers of smaller fixed line broadband providers could end up being exempt from the digital economy bill, leaving a gaping hole to be exploited by the illegal file sharers.

According to a report on the register.co.uk, it seems that to implement such measures would mean high costs.

Therefore, in time honoured tradition, it would seem that the government has decided to go after the easy target, this being the customers of the large internet service providers.

The exact details will not be available until the regulator Ofcom has put forward its “Code of Practice”, which should give an indication as to where the line is going to be drawn.
