Sony Ericsson and 3 launch celebrity Spotify promo

Sony Ericsson has come up with a new idea to market its Xperia X10 and Vivaz handsets, along with network operator 3, and music streaming service Spotify.

These Sony Ericsson phones offer new owners two months of free Spotify, plus some playlists put together by famous bands and artists.

The likes of Keane, The Stereophonics and Ellie Goulding (Wikipedia is your friend) are offering fans an insight into their musical tastes by providing the playlists.

There’s a story behind the playlists, as well. For example, Keane’s compilation of tunes was listened to by the band on an all-night train journey.

So you might expect to hear Last Train Home by the Lostprophets, Night Train by Guns N’ Roses, or Mouldy Old Dough by Lieutenant Pigeon (come the evening, a lone suspiciously green-tinged croissant will be all that’s left in the buffet car).

The Stereophonics playlist is based on the group’s experiences on the tour bus. Not sure what that will consist of, but odds are it would have made much better listening if the band had compiled it in 1997.
