News Corp tuning into digital music

It is an interesting concept that News Corp is working on; all the music that users want under a blanket licence fee.

This idea is similar to what some mobile providers are doing.

According to the FT, the service is being set up by Beyond Oblivion.

The user pays a subscription fee in with their mobile phone, ISP or fixed line phone account.

The software scans the device and logs all music stored.

It makes no difference where the music originates from and in fact the user can download additional music free of charge.

Now comes the tricky bit!

Whenever the music is played a fee is paid to the content owners.

This fee is charged to the company that the user is subscribing too.

This is not a totally new concept but issues are bound to turn up as more details become available.
