On demand video is quietly growing, and according to the results released by cable TV, broadband and phone service provider Virgin Media, the first quarter of the year was a record breaking year for VoD.

The first three months of 2010 saw the number of homes regularly accessing video on demand services grow to 2.1 million, which is sixty per cent of the firm’s customers.

Average monthly views for the quarter were up twenty four per cent to a massive 68 million, but what is surprising is the type of content being watched in this way - soaps like Eastenders, Coronation Street and other popular terrestrial shows.

This just goes to show that viewers like what is on TV; they just want to be able to watch it when it suits them and not the schedules.
