News Corp gets Avatar boost

May 6, 2010

Since its launch in the later part of 2009, the blockbuster movie has grossed $2.2 billion and has given News Corp a welcome boost.

In fact the movie has helped produce a massive nineteen per cent increase in third quarter revenues.

However, despite this additional income, News Corp only managed to bring in $839 million.

The figure for the previous year was $2.7 billion, although this figure was held up by the sale of NDS and some help in the tax department.

As far as TV is concerned, the Fox News channel has recorded its largest viewing figures and an increase in quarterly operating income by 31 per cent.

However, satellite television did not fare so well, with the income from these services falling from $63 million in 2009 to $35 this year.
