Virgin Media deletes customer details

It appears that hundreds of broadband users with Virgin Media have been disconnected from the network, but this is not some wide sweeping change targeting certain groups, these customers have lost their internet connection by complete accident.

It seems that something went wrong following a database clean up, when the system decided that data about hundreds of modems was out of date and disconnected the modems from the network.

So far, the affected users have been without internet access for around ten days, although the company insists that the situation has been rectified.

The clean-up programme was launched in February and until a couple of weeks ago had no problems.

Its purpose is to check MAC addresses that are not matching up with records on the database.
