Liberty thinking over Irish DTT plans

May 11, 2010

Once again, the development of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in Ireland appears to have been put on hold, as the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) takes away its digital TV broadcasting licence offer from the OneVision consortium, leaving the door open for Liberty Global to move on in.

However, it seems that not even Liberty Global is too enthusiastic about the prospect of taking on the DTT licence single handed.

According to a spokesperson from Liberty Global, the company and its partner in the consortium RTE, which is Ireland’s national broadcaster, are considering the offer from the BAI.

RTE will be running the free to air service too, which is sticking point when it comes to the development of DTT in the country.
