ASA investigates cruel Paddy Power TV advert

May 12, 2010

The advertising standards authority (ASA) will be looking into an advert produced by the betting people Paddy Power.

The advert has been running for over a month and forms part of the company’s World Cup marketing campaign.

It depicts a footballer who has been blindfolded and as he attempts to play the game of football he accidentally kicks a cat into a tree!

The advert of course would have been passed by Clearcast, but since being on the air it has attracted over four complaints from viewers who believe the advert is offensive and has the potential to encourage people to be cruel to animals.

The advert actually features players from the England team at the World Blind Football Championships, but this was not made clear during the advert.
