Mediaset sees advertising rise

The Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset is feeling upbeat following an increase in advertising sales in both of its key markets, Italy and Spain.

These increases have helped Mediaset produce a first quarter net profit that was up by fifty five per cent, which is quite impressive under the current market conditions.

According to Mediaset, which is owned by the Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi, the company is able to keep to its predictions for 2010, with advertising sales on target to reach a good five per cent growth in the first half of the year.

Despite its size and contacts within the government, Mediaset will not be showing the World Cup this summer.

This honour has gone to the state owned RAI network, although Mediaset is expecting to see advertising sales increase during the summer.
