Sky Sports heads for BT Vision

by David Allen

The chief executive of BT, Ian Livingstone, has announced what he calls BT Vision 2.0, which will be a much improved service.

With the introduction of Project Canvas, should it ever go live, BT Vision would draw on HD content and other services.

However, in a deal that is no big surprise following the media regulator Ofom’s decision to force BSkyB to reduce its wholesale prices, Sky Sports 1 and 2 will become available through a deal struck with Arqiva.

For the BT Vision subscriber there could be significant savings in store, with the Sky Sports package costing £20, whereas the same package on Sky would be £36, although it has to be said that this is no like for like comparison, but being able to offer Sky Sports is a clear breakthrough for BT.
