ClamCase brings bluetooth keyboard to iPad

Planning on buying an iPad when they’re eventually out over here? Fancy turning it into a netbook? Then shell out for a ClamCase when they’re released in the autumn.

This accessory protects your iPad in a hinged netbook style case, which features a chiclet design bluetooth keyboard.

So if you don’t like the iPad’s virtual touch keyboard, you can use that instead.

Although, it obviously makes the iPad less portable, and, well, pretty much like a netbook.

And a fairly expensive one, given the UK price of the iPad, and the cost of the ClamCase on top.

The latter figure isn’t yet known, but it looks quite a sleek unit – as you’d expect with something that’s going to be paired with a trendy gadget. So we’re guessing it’s not going to be particularly cheap.

Still, the ClamCase is a novel idea, because it flips open a full 360 degrees, and can also be used as a stand for the iPad. This means you can watch movies as if your iPad is a small TV, or set it up as a digital photo frame.

The ClamCase will be compatible with other bluetooth devices, such as the PS3, for example.

But the question remains, if you’re going this route, why not just get a MacBook? With the ClamCase and iPad combination you do have more flexibility, but less functionality.

We shall have to see how the pricing stacks up, because if the case doesn’t cost too many clams, then maybe it’ll make for a more compelling argument.
