Virgin Media spoke about its next-gen cable box at the NCTA Cable Show in Los Angeles.

The box is designed to unlock the online world for TV viewers.

Earlier this month Virgin Media confirmed that its latest HD box contains the TiVo middleware.

The company expects to soft launch TiVo by the end of the year, making it the first TV 2.0. operator.

The service will be rolled out in 2011, and with 26% of people watching internet TV more than once a week there is a huge potential market.

TiVo is expected to offer a seamless experience between linear television and the web.
