Newspaper archives to go online

May 21, 2010

Putting the newspaper archives from the British Library online may seem like a simple enough task but according to the organisation, the four million historic pages from the national newspaper collection will take around two years to complete.

But that is just the tip of the newspaper iceberg as the collection actually consists of thirty eight million pages and covers a time period of over three hundred and fifty years.

Putting these online will take a little longer; in fact, the task is expected to be completed in 2020.

Surprisingly the collection is actually just hard copy and microfilm, but having access to it will be something very special for many people, as they will be able to read news stories from any year.
