BSkyB attacks iPlayer plans

May 28, 2010

The plans released by the BBC for the catch TV service the iPlayer have been criticised by broadcasting rival BSkyB.

The plans are to offer a search service with a difference, so whereby the user enters the title of a non BBC show, they would be offered a link to the player belonging to the broadcaster that airs that particular show.

The argument from satellite broadcaster BSkyB is that the BBC have changed the iPlayer catch up service and created an online aggregator and this has been done without getting the proper regulator backing of the beta service.

The new trail version of the iPlayer is live on the BBC website; it also offers users a TV guide that is link to main social networking sites.
