Local news want BBC cap

June 2, 2010

The body that represents the regional newspaper industry the Newspaper Society (NS) are calling for a cap to be placed on the amount of content that the BBC carries on its local websites.

This is not the first time that the regional newspaper industry has gone head to head with the BBC over local news content, but this time the NS are looking to stop the BBC from what they claim to be competing unfairly with the local press.

Earlier on in the year, the BBC made an under taking that it would not introduce its planned network of local news websites, but the NS feel that this does not go far enough because the BBC still carry local news on its main BBC News website.
