Apple trackpad for desktop is WWDC surprise?

Apple’s WWDC (Worldwide Developer’s Conference) is happening today, with Steve Jobs opening speech kicking off at 6pm tonight our time.

Along with the official unveiling of the iPhone 4 and OS 4, some form of wild card is expected, although pics leaked onto the net may just have spoiled it.

Engadget has published images of what appears to be an Apple multi-touch bluetooth trackpad for its desktop computers.

The 10 inch unit – the same size as an iPad – could be used to control your Mac via gestures and swipes, rather than the traditional keyboard.

Mind you, we’ve been controlling our computer with gestures and swipes for years now. Three broken keyboards can testify to that fact.

It seems like this rumour could well have some truth in it. At any rate, we don’t have long to wait to find out, just six hours now.
