BBC Trust lives on for now

June 7, 2010

Before the election the Conservatives and Lib Dems were in favour of abolishing the BBC Trust in its current form and this week the culture secretary, Jeremy Hunt, will be making his first speech on media policy.

It seems that the main subject will be the rolling of broadband services throughout the UK and the reform of local media.

The BBC Trust appears to have slipped through the net this time, although the culture secretary is suggesting that the BBC’s governing charter should be completely rewritten before its expiry in 2016.

Essentially this means little change for the BBC Trust; however there will be a review of how effective the BBC is on spending the money it gets from the TV Licence payer.
