Talking TV on the way

A partnership of public and private enterprises in the UK is in the later stages of development of a text-to-speech technology designed to work in conjunction with a digital set top box.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People and Bristol-based Ocean Blue Software have been working with STMicroelectronics and TW Electronics to create a product that can cater for the visually impaired digital TV user.

What Talking TV does is provides a speech-based TV and programming guide that allows the visually-impaired user to go through the entire set up menu and other services without the need for any help.

Talking TV is compatible with the Freeview digital service and in fact Arion Technology will be incorporating the service into its latest set top boxes.
