DJ Hero 2 ready to spin this autumn

Activision has released details of its DJ Hero sequel, which will be out this autumn.

DJ Hero is a music game along the lines of Guitar Hero, except instead of guitars and drums, your instrument of choice is the humble turntable.

Or indeed, two turntables and a microphone, as the DJ Hero 2 Party Bundle will feature these peripherals (wonder where they got that idea from – Beck should probably sue).

The emphasis is on the social aspects here, with two players going head to head as DJs, and a host of new multiplayer modes. These will invite vocalists and rappers into the competitive play alongside the DJs, “spitting” their stuff on the provided microphone.

David Haddad, Chief Operating Officer, Guitar Hero, commented: “With new social game modes, the inclusion of full microphone support, all-new levels of creative freedom and an amazing soundtrack, DJ Hero 2 is the ultimate mixer of music and friends.”

In the single player stakes, a new fleshed out career called the “Empire” mode is promised, where you start out as an unknown DJ, and work your way up to head a “major entertainment empire”.

The game’s sound track will feature some of the biggest names in pop, dance and hip-hop, such as Dr Dre, The Chemical Brothers and Lady Gaga. Along with some wild cards thrown in for good measure – Metallica, for instance.

Deadmau5 (pronounced “Dead Mouse”) will be a playable in-game character (the mix-meister who composed one of last summer’s big hit house tunes, “I Remember”).

The original game didn’t exactly go down a storm, but evidently well enough for a sequel. Or at least, Activision is hoping the sequel will be better received, which may well be the case with full DJ battles and the fresh career mode.

We missed the first one, but might be tempted to take this sequel out for a spin.

DJ Hero 2 will be available on the Xbox 360, Wii and PS3.

  1. You mean Mantronix should sue, right? Seeing as how Beck sampled them…

  3. This game will be awesome simply because Deadmau5 is on it. That is all, folks, game over.

Ok, not really. The first game had my attention for about a day, then I got bored. As a former House DJ in Houston it really is nothing like the real thing. Mashups are fun but they are only one aspect of DJing. It seems like, from the previews, they’re going all mashup again, which means I probably won’t be picking this up.

    (And Metallica, really?)
