Most of London will have fibre by next year

June 16, 2010

London looks set to benefit from BT’s roll out of next generation fibre technology a lot sooner than first anticipated.

BT’s commitment was to cover most of London by the time the Olympics start, however according to BT, it will be adding 114 exchanges to the fibre network, meaning the capital will be getting 87 per cent coverage by this time next year!

This of course does not help the rest of the UK, especially those areas where there is no broadband available, but London has the highest concentration of consumers.

The current UK plans are to cover two thirds of the country with fibre by 2015, but if the same pattern follows, it will mean that those areas already getting up-to-20 Mbps will be getting the fibre upgrade first.
