The owner of the latest satellite to enter geostationary orbit, SES Astra, must have been very happy to be told that following a series of delays and the actual launch on the 21st May, the Astra B satellite is now fully operational.
The satellite was built by EADS Astrium and launched by Arrianspace from the spaceport based in Kourou, French Guiana.
Finally, after being positioned at 23.5 degrees and having passed all of the required tests on the hardware and the broadcasting capabilities, the Astra 3B satellite has been passed as being fully operational.
The satellite will now begin to broadcast television services across Europe, as well as providing satellite broadband services too.
SES has already assigned most of the capacity, with only a limited amount of space left.
