Low iPhone 4 stock at O2 means only existing customers welcome

O2 has admitted that its limited stock levels of the iPhone 4, due out Thursday, means that the company is only going to offer the new smartphone to existing customers.

So if you’re with O2 on phone or broadband (from before May 24th) you’ll be able to snaffle a fourth-gen iPhone with them. If not, you’ll have to look elsewhere, although there’s no shortage of other operators set to offer the mobile.

Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, 3 and Tesco Mobile will be selling the iPhone 4. Only Virgin looks to be missing out on the party.

O2 says that it won’t offer the phone to folks outside its customer base until August at the earliest, possibly longer.

We wonder if any of the other operators are also going to suffer stock stress, given that it looks like demand for the iPhone 4 is going to be high – certainly if Apple’s record pre-orders (600,000 on just the first day) are anything to go by.
