The UK’s largest supermarket chain, Tesco, has begun selling the UK’s first high definition Freeview set top box with recording capabilities.

It comes with a 320 GB hard drive allowing the recording of high definition Freeview content.

The Technika SmartBox has been launched onto the UK market in Tesco stores, online and in partnership with IP Vision.

The device can connect to the internet to access online catch up TV services such as the BBC iPlayer and the ITV Player.

The consumer can even subscribe to the Sky Player too, in order to access content from Sky TV.

According to Tesco, at around £200 the SmartBox is the UK’s only Freeview PVR currently on sale in the UK that allows the consumer to watch and record HD content.
