Mobile TV tested in the UK

by David Allen

In a joint UK trial, the mobile providers O2, Orange and Vodafone will be testing a new mobile broadcast technology known as Integrated Mobile Broadcast (IMB).

IMB is supposed to make it easier for mobile service providers to offer improved mobile TV and radio services.

The group will begin trialling the IMB technology this October in central London and Slough.

The testing will last for around three months in order to give the operators a chance to assess how it could be deployed across their networks.

IMB is supposed to offer the user a better picture quality than currently achieved by using a 3G connection.

It will also offer the mobile providers a chance to bring in more channels, which is something that the networks are interested in.
