First Class for BBC bosses

June 25, 2010

As the BBC goes under the government’s microscope, a picture begins to appear on where the £3.4 billion TV Licence fee money actually goes and unsurprisingly it does not all go into the making of TV and radio shows.

In fact, according to documents obtained under the Freedom of Information act, it seems that the BBC execs like to travel by train, which is good for the environment, but only if they can travel by First Class, which is not good for the finances.

In the last three years around £12,000 has been spent on First Class train travel, but according to a BBC spokesperson, First Class rail travel is only chosen for BBC staff when it is a cheaper option than the other travel alternatives.
