Price of satellite broadband revealed

June 25, 2010

For some time the actual cost of satellite broadband from Avanti Communications has been a mystery, especially as the HYLAS 1 satellite that will carry the service has not been launched yet.

However, following the budget, David Williams, the chief executive of UK-based satellite broadband provider Avanti Communications, let the price slip and claimed that his company could provide an 8 Mbps broadband service for just £25 per month.

The price is higher than expected, but considering that this is a broadband service that can service anywhere in the UK, £25 per month could seem to be a fairly attractive deal to many consumers with no broadband at all.

The only drawback is the cost of the equipment and installation, which can be as much as £400 to £500 per home.

I know this will be very good news for people living in the UK. I know that WildBlue is going to be increasing theirs speeds to up to 10mbps next year. I believe they are also going to start offering service in Europe. There is more on this topic on my blog at mybluedish.com/blog.
