BBC iPlayer arrives on Android

The Beeb’s catch-up TV service has been made available on the latest incarnation of Android.

Android 2.2, also known as Froyo, supports Flash 10.1, hence the iPlayer can now be rolled out on all Froyo powered smartphones.

However, this isn’t an actual Android app, just an optimised version of the iPlayer site, so it’ll work via your browser.

It’s also worth noting that to stream programme content smoothly, you’ll need a reasonably chunky processor in your Android phone, and you’ll have to do so over wi-fi rather than 3G.

Still, it’s a definite bonus for those with newer Android phones which are running Froyo.
