The English version of the Qatar based news service Al Jazeera, has announced that as from today it will be showing up on the free-to-view digital television platform, Freeview.

The channel is already available on satellite TV through Sky and Freesat, where it can be received in around ten million homes, but this deal with Freeview will effectively double its UK audience to around twenty million households.

Al Jazeera will be on the air from 6 pm to 11 pm every day on Freeview channel 89 from its studios in London and in Washington.

There will be some famous names on board such as the current affairs shows Frost Over The World and the Rageh Omaar Report, as well as live news and daily sports reports.

  1. Bad news for Sky News and BBC News 24.

These crap TV news channels has become duopoly or twinopoly in the UK.
    Not anymore.
They’ll soon be as irrevelant as tabloid newspapers.

Roll on Al-Jazira News on FreeView.
(What a good idea though a bit late. It should’ve been on Freeview as early as the beginning of Al-Jazeera/Freeview).
