Stars’ pay could lead to media war

As the pressure builds to reveal those high salaries that presenters and stars are being paid, the BBC Trust is warning that if these secret pay deals were made public, it would spark a war within the media, as celebrities, agents and the BBC management struggle to justify these huge amounts of cash.

The BBC has been against revealing the actual high earners for reasons that are only known in the corridors of power.

However, the recent financial crisis and the MP’s expenses fiasco has opened the door to transparency from which nobody can hide.

The worry for the BBC is the One Show effect, with both presenters of the show being tempted away from the BBC to ITV.

If salaries are known, staff poaching could become a way of life for the BBC.
