Microsoft introduces Xbox Live Arcade summer promotion

Video game sales traditionally slow down a bit in the summer, what with all that sunlight and fresh air tempting us out, particularly after a long cold winter.

But this year the games industry is doing its best to keep us glued to our monitors and TVs in our usually vain efforts to beat someone else’s high scores.

First off Valve had its summer Steam sale (the game delivery service, not a car boot sale in a sauna) and now Microsoft is running a promotion called Summer of Arcade.

This involves five Xbox Live Arcade titles, which will be released starting on July 21st over a period of four weeks. Buy the lot (for 1200 MS points apiece) and you’ll get one title free. Purchase three of them, and you’ll get 400 MS points back.

The games in question are Limbo, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, Monday Night Combat and finally, the next instalment of Lara Croft (The Guardian of Light).

The new isometric version of Lara looks much fun in particular, with a co-op theme being introduced in the form of a Mayan warrior who jumps, swings around and fights by her side. You’ll have to wait for that, though, as the Lara Croft game will be the final one out on August 18th.
