BT strike ballot cancelled

Bookmark and Share

by David Allen

BT and its customers have been given a temporary lift from the threat of strike action by BT staff.

The BT employees were supposed to be taking part in a strike ballot organised by the Communication Workers Union (CWU), but it seems that the ballot has been called off and yet the threat of strike action is still there.

This is because the CWU was concerned about the legalities of the ballot and, as with other calls for industrial action, a mere legal technicality can mean that the ballot is illegal.

However while the CWU goes over the fine print of the rule book, this does give the two sides time to sit down and try to sort out their differences without the need for industrial action.
