A high speed undersea internet cable that provides a link between the east Africa and Europe, has developed a fault which will affect internet traffic coming from the region to Europe and parts of Asia.

The fault is believed to be located just off the coast of Kenya.

Seacom the owner of the cable has begun to make plans to repair it, but has stated that this could take up to eight days or longer depending on the situation.

The cable was only completed last year.

It was supposed to bring broadband to a wider audience in Africa but, as of yet, internet access is still out of reach for many consumers.

This is the second fault on the cable since it became operational.
