RNIB works on talking STB

July 12, 2010

It is estimated that every day around a hundred people in the UK alone begin to notice a loss in sight and as the average age increases this is only going to get worse.

However, the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) are working with Bristol based software developer Ocean Blue, to build an electronic programme guide (EPG) for satellite and cable set top boxes, which comes with talking features.

A product such as this could change the quality of life for someone with an eyesight problem.

So far it only appears to be the free to view digital TV service Freeview that will be trying the system out, but something like this could find its way into almost any area of technology, provided that is delivers what the user wants.
