BBC wins World Cup

The World Cup may be over, but it seems that Spain were not the only winners in this competition, for when it comes to the TV coverage the BBC beat off its rival ITV, with almost five times as many viewers choosing the BBC.

It has to be said that ITV put pressure on itself by poaching Adrian Chiles from the BBC to front the ITV presentation, but it seems that old favourite Gary Lineker and his team had the legs to show ITV how it should be done.

Going head to head is always going to be a risk, but with both channels showing the World Cup final, viewers preferred the BBC to ITV, in fact 17.9 million viewers tuned into the BBC, while 3.8 million preferred ITV.
