NY web designer claims he owns Facebook

A lawsuit has been filed in New York’s Allegany County Supreme Court claiming that a web designer owns 84% of Facebook.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the man in question, Paul D. Ceglia, alleges that he signed a contract with Mark Zuckerberg back in 2003.

The contract was to design the original social networking website, Ceglia claims, and involved getting a 50% stake in it, plus 1% additional interest for every day after January 1st 2004 until it was completed.

A New York judge has blocked Facebook assets from being transferred until the site responds to the suit.

Facebook called the lawsuit “completely frivolous”, and promised that it will “fight it vigorously”.

It isn’t the first legal challenge Facebook has faced, and it doubtless won’t be the last, but this one is very unlikely to have legs, to say the least.
