Ubisoft enjoys strong first quarter sales

Ubisoft beat analyst estimates when the company unveiled the first fiscal quarter sales figures its games had achieved.

Sales of approximately 160 million Euros were recorded, which was 10% better than analysts had predicted.

And it was up a huge amount on the same period last year, nearly double in fact, as Ubisoft only managed 83 million Euros back then.

Some of these gains were due to a favourable exchange rate – Ubisoft puts around 9 million Euros down to this – but a big factor was a strong performance from Splinter Cell Conviction, which shifted 1.9 million units.

Ubi’s back-catalogue and casual titles also performed well, the company notes, with sustained sales of Just Dance (which was in the charts for ages), and Assassin’s Creed 2, along with Avatar.

CEO Yves Guillemot was unsurprisingly upbeat about the future: “This year’s E3 further confirmed the potential for our end-of-year line-up… Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood should allow us to reaffirm our position as one of the industry’s best multiplayer developers. The pre-orders are the strongest ever seen, already 20% above those from the same period last year, even before the awards announced following E3.”

“In the casual segment, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, Just Dance 2 or Michael Jackson: The Experience, which has generated particularly promising media coverage, are expected to attract a large number of casual players.”
