The Develop 2010 awards ceremony for European game developers took place in Brighton last night, hosted by Rufus Hound.

And Quantic Dream won the Best New IP for Heavy Rain, along with the award for the Best Independent Studio.

Rocksteady Studios scooped the Best Use of a License or IP for Batman: Arkham Asylum, and the outfit also nabbed the accolade of Best In-House Studio.

Other double award winners included Hello Games, makers of the joyous stunt bike frolic Joe Danger, who received Best New Studio and Micro Studio.

Unity Technologies picked up the award for Technical Innovation, and also the Grand Prix special award, which recognises an outstanding contribution to the games industry.

Other awards included Best New Download IP, which went to Rovio’s Angry Birds on the iPhone, and the Development Legend award, which was picked up by Jagex Studios (of RuneScape fame).

It’s the eighth year of Develop magazine’s annual awards, which are voted for by a panel of industry experts.

Editor of Develop, Michael French, commented: “This year’s role-call of winners is truly impressive. Despite the challenges and changes currently making things very tough for the development sector across the globe, those who have taken home awards tonight have demonstrated the resilience and talent that continues to thrive in the UK and Europe.”
