Modu 1, world’s lightest phone floats into UK

The Modu 1 is now on sale in the UK, and it’s the world’s lightest phone, as verified by the Guinness World Records.

V3.co.uk provides the link to the validation of the lightest hand-held mobile phone record, which says: “The lightest mobile (cell) phone is the Modu, which weighs 40.1 g (1.41 oz). It is manufactured by Modu ltd. (Israel) and was launched at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain on 11 February 2008.”

It’s certainly very compact, with a 1.3 inch display and 2GB of memory along with an MP3 player, plus bluetooth.

Another selling point (allegedly) is that the Modu 1 has a range of jackets which can be purchased to alter the phone’s appearance and interface. For example, there’s a “speedy jacket” themed on a sports design inspired by the race track (there’s a big tyre tread over it and the screen is cracked – or maybe not).

Purelygadgets are flogging the phone at £130, although the jackets will run you to an extra £40 or £50 each.

After you’ve paid all that money for it, just make sure you don’t lose the Modu 1 down the back of the sofa along with your bits of loose change.

Or maybe the company will start producing a “rave jacket”, which will flash lights and kick out a thumping bass line to help you locate the tiny thing.
