TV Licence set to fall

by David Allen

Currently the cost of the TV Licence is set at £145.50 for a colour television.

This is supposed to raise around £3.5 billion which funds the activities of the BBC, but according to the Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, even the TV Licence could be cut under the government’s plans.

This cut is clearly not going to make much difference to the average householder’s budget, but for the BBC it could mean a reduction running into millions of pounds each year.

Much has been said about the huge salaries being paid out by the BBC, but these top earners use only a tiny percentage of overall budgets.

The problem for the BBC is the sheer size of the corporation, rather than the top earners.
